Have you ever lost your bankroll while sticking to your bankroll management rules?

Yeah, it happens frequently. I Flfollow my rules perfectly—l, 40 buy-ins, stop-losses, the whole thing. Still I sometimes go bust during a brutal downswing. That's poker though. Rules lower your risk but don't eliminate it. Anyone who says different hasn't played enough hands.

Do Most Players Actually Follow Proper Bankroll Rules?

I don't think so. Most say they do, then they're taking shots at 2/5 after one good night. Guilty of it myself. We get bored or overconfident and bend the rules. The ones who actually follow them are the exception, not the rule.

    Is conservative bankroll management overrated?

Perhaps! I see some people acting like they need 50 buy-ins to play $1/$2. That's overkill for a winning player with. But going crazy the other way is also worse. You need to find a middle ground you're comfortable with. Just don't lie to yourself about being a winner when you're not.

Do bankroll rules kill motivation for micro-stakes grinders?

I think they can. Staring at strict rules while grinding pennies gets old fast. But honestly, going broke kills motivation way worse. I believe you should try setting small rewards for hitting goals, which keeps it fun without being reckless.

How do you actually stick to bankroll management in poker?

Honestly? Most people don't. I struggle with this always. What helps me is setting a hard stop-loss before I even sit down. Once I lose X buy-ins, I'm done for the day, no excuses.

Grinding Microstakes vs Taking Shots, Which Is Better?

Ibthunk this depends on your gut feeling. Grinding microstakes is boring but safe. Taking shots can pay off, but one bad run hurts. I'd say grind until you've got extra buy-ins you don't care about losing, then take a smart shot.

Should winning players ever move down in stakes?

Yeah, for sure. Sometimes you need to swallow your pride. If you're hitting bad variance or your confidence is shot, moving down protects your bankroll. Plenty of winning players do it to get their head straight again. No shame in that.
