Reda Achnit turned a freeroll opportunity into an incredible $51,000 payday at the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series in Jeju, South Korea.
The Moroccan computer engineer qualified through a promotional freeroll on CoinPoker, earning a package that allowed him to enter a $25,000 Triton event. What makes the story even more impressive is that Achnit had never played a live poker tournament before and had only been playing micro-stakes online tournaments for a couple of months.
Despite being surrounded by some of the biggest names in poker, including Phil Ivey, Adrian Mateos and Stephen Chidwick, Achnit managed to survive deep into the tournament and finish 15th for $51,000.
His run eventually ended when he attempted a bluff against Seth Davies, but regardless of the final hand, turning a freeroll into a $51K score in his first-ever live tournament is an incredible poker story.
