There are pieces of legislation introduced at the Ohio Statehouse that could legalize what’s known as iGaming right from your phone and other devises.

Other states have already legalized gambling on phones, tablets, and computers for games like poker, 21, slots and even the lottery.

Senate President Rob McColley (R-Napoleon) is looking at potentially legalizing this new form of gaming and recently told the Statehouse News Bureau it might be time to make the move.

“I think there’s a different tone and tenor about some of these things than maybe there was ten years ago. I think a lot of times Ohioans want to have a little bit more choice as to how they spend their money and spend their recreational time. I think it’s something we’re going to talk about,” McColley said.

The move could generate millions in tax revenue for the state, and already lawmakers are trying to bookmark the money.

State Representative Bride Rose Sweeney (D-Westlake) introduced legislation asking that any new money generated be spent on K-12 public education, publicly funded child care, and programs to address problem gaming.

“If the state is going to legalize iGaming and in doing so create a new source of tax revenue, that money must go where it is needed most–our kids. Ohio’s children and families are suffering and they must be our first priority,” Sweeney said.

According to Sweeney states like Michigan and Pennsylvania are already making millions on iGaming.
