Is fishing a sport?

Many people think that fishing can be considered a sport. You can compete with others when it comes to catching fishes. However, on the other hand, many people believe that fishing is rather a recreational activity and it is not a sport. What do you think?

Fishing is sport to me. Just because it doesn't require running up and down, doesn't mean it's easy. I once followed my uncle to go fishing and I nearly fainted from boredom and sun. It takes skill, timing, calmness. It also needs mental strength too.

I think that it could be considered a sport because it requires you to compete with others. This is why it is considered a sport by many people. Having said that, it does not require a lots of physical activity.

I am not sure about competitions being held in regards to fishing. It could be possible that fishing competitions night be held in certain places and winners might even be given a price as well however, this has not happened in my country yet.
