Many players debate between skill and luck as determining factors in poker success. Luck influences small-time achievements but the skill becomes the most significant determinant for achieving consistent outcomes in poker. Skilled poker players consistently make better choices through their ability to manage risks better during game changes.

While luck plays a role in short-term results—like drawing a winning hand or hitting the right card on the river—over the long run, skill becomes the dominant factor in a player's success. Skilled players have honed their ability to read opponents, manage their bankroll, and make calculated decisions based on probability and psychology.

Poker legend Doyle Brunson once said, "Poker is a hard way to make an easy living." This highlights how skillful players must constantly adapt and refine their strategies to stay ahead

That's true! Talent remain the determining element in poker. With the right skills, you are at an advantage at the port table.

Poker is a game of luck and skill. Luck may have a considerable influence even on a very skillful player. A bad beat can happen to anyone, regardless of skill level.

"If luck weren't a factor, i would win every time" - Phil Hellmuth

This quote from the tournament legend Phil Hellmuth speaks to me, and I feel the same when I play :ROFLMAO:

Luck can be so cruel in poker that even the greatest of players can fall victim to a big beat. But it is important to know that luck doesn't last for a long time, but skill does win in the long run.

To navigate the tug of war between skill and luck within a game, especially poker is complicated because luck tends to dominate in the short-term, while in the long term, skill weighs it down completely. That should answer the question.

Luck is present in poker and no one can deny that. But it can only ride you for a few moment. The people that consistently make money from poker are not lucky. They are masters of the game that have taken years to study the game and understand what it involves.

Poker is more of skill than luck. If it is by luck, some of most successful poker players will not continue to dorminate the game. Players like Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey etc have done exceptionally well. Therefore, i come to conclusion that skill is more important.

I think poker is mostly skill with short-term luck mixed in. Bad players can get lucky for a night or even a week, but over thousands of hands, the skilled players always come out ahead. The luck element just makes it exciting and keeps the fish coming back to donate their money!
