I have actually folded AK os pre-flop on several occasions, especially if I’m out of position and generally quite a few raises or re-raises before me.
Position usually doesn't cross my mind much preflop, aside from helping me decide how much to raise or whether to fold. I've folded AK preflop myself on quite a few occasions, but it's not a hand I like folding. It usually takes multiple players getting involved in a big pot to convince me to fold preflop.
