Mike Matusow went for a small bid in the 25k Fantasy Draft, and Allen Kessler didn't even get drafted. Both longtime poker pros appear to be on a mission to prove the poker community wrong this summer at the 2025 World Series of Poker (WSOP).
The $25,000 buy-in WSOP fantasy draft took place at Aria Tuesday afternoon. A record 24 teams each selected eight players they hope will rack up points during the Series. Team owners could only spend up to $200 bidding on players during the auction, which means they had to either avoid the high-priced stars like Jeremy Ausmus, who went for $141, or pile up the value picks.
One of those potential value selections is Matusow, a four-time bracelet winner. But he only went for $3 to Daniel Negreanu's team. The low bid didn't sit well with "The Mouth."
Matusow, in a tweet, referred to the low bid as "comical" and said "they're gonna f*****g pay." He also assured Negreanu that he would be the beneficiary of the other teams skipping over him in the draft.

Matusow, who hasn't won a bracelet since 2013, was drafted, even if it was for just a small amount. Kessler, on the other hand, went for exactly $0, meaning no one picked him up.
The "Chainsaw" has never won a bracelet, but he does have 264 cashes between the WSOP and World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC). Most of Kessler's cashes are of the min-cash variety. But he'll almost certainly rack up some fantasy points this summer. Enough to justify being drafted? That question will be answered as the 2025 WSOP progresses.
Kessler is so confident in his game that he's willing put his money where his mouth is. More specifically, he's accepted a bet against Martin Zamani, a two-time bracelet winner.
Kessler tweeted out an offer to "bet on myself" to outscore 10 selected drafted players. Zamani took his action at $250 per player for a maximum bet of $2,500, Kessler told PokerNews. The players the Chainsaw must outscore at the WSOP this summer to win the entire bet are as follows:
Kessler and Matusow are confident they can perform well during the 2025 World Series of Poker. Now it's up to them to prove the poker community wrong. If they can't, they'll certainly hear about it from the haters on social media.
