Do you avoid big pots early in tournaments?

I think a lot of players are over aggressive early in tournaments, and should be trying to play small pots until the levels increase. There's no reason make monster raises when you have a big stack. If you commonly get knocked out early, it's probably because you play too many hands, and aren't betting for value. It's also easier to bluff later in tournaments when there's pay jumps, and you get close to the money.

Thoughts?
