Has the UFC become too cautious with matchmaking?

Isn't it how Dana White protected Jon Jones for years, not letting him fight Francis Ngannou and also with ducking Tom Aspinal until he retired. UFC always protect their favorite fighters.
 
The matchmaking we see now is definitely more protective than what it was before. I understand why promoters do it because stars bring in more money, but sometimes it becomes too obvious. Back then it felt like fighters got tested earlier. Now some prospects are wrapped for years. They are not given a chance at all
