I was catching up on the news and saw that Columbia House is officially shutting down for good. Remember the days of peeling those stamps, taping a penny to the paper, and waiting weeks for our vinyl or cassettes to arrive in the mail?
It really got me thinking about how much the world has changed. Those of us from that era have lived through a massive shift in history.
Think about what we have seen. We started with rotary phones, party lines, and black-and-white TVs with just a few channels. We watched music go from vinyl, to 8-tracks, to cassettes, to CDs, and now to digital streaming. We went from room-sized computers to carrying the entire world in our pockets on a smartphone. We didn't just watch the world change—we adapted to it, over and over again.
The physical things we grew up with might be fading away, but it makes me realize that we are living in a time where absolutely anything is possible.
If we can go from mail-order records to self-driving cars in a single lifetime, imagine what might still be ahead. You never know what is going to come next, and that is incredibly exciting. It also keeps us sharp—whether we are adapting to new tech or reading opponents across a poker table! We have seen the world rebuild itself from scratch, and I’m ready to see whatever comes next.
What are the biggest changes you remember living through? And what do you think the future holds?
