When starting your game in poker, you may only bet a couple of dollars on fun, but in casinos, or online poker you have to meet the minimum bet required to be put into the game. It is recommended that those that are just starting to play poker should start by betting small amounts to minimize the loss that they may incur during the learning process.

I think it really depends on the game and your goals. For cash games, starting with a bankroll that’s at least 20-30 times the buy-in is a good idea. If you’re just playing for fun, start small and only use money you’re okay losing. It’s all about managing your risk.

Scorpion is on the money here. If you're talking about pros(since if its recreational it's just for fun) then 20/25 buy ins for cash live is the minimum, closer to 35/50 if you want to be safe and not move down. As for online cash it's 100 buy ins.

Mtts are higher variance. Live you want 50 buy ins minimum. Online you want 100+.

But the key is discipline. A bankroll essentially allows you to play your game without fear of losing sessions, days, weeks etc 👍🏻

I would say that if you are just starting, it is always best to start off small and only bet an amount you are happy to lose.

Betting is similar to investing and trading; you wouldn't invest or trade more than you want to risk losing, and I feel that should be the same for betting in poker.
