I like to play satellites if they have steps, so I can work my way up from a small buy-in. I only play satellites if they pay out more than a few spots, usually. I mostly look for tournaments that pay out cash.

How about you?

I don't find myself being patient enough with the small payouts with multi-step satellites. I prefer to enter events that have a big score that one can chase. It feels better to win a significant amount of money in one go of playing poker.

I try and grind "normal" mtts mon-fri and on the good weeks ill play plenty of sattys trying to get in some sunday games over the weekends. biggest scores have come from sattys so its not a stupid idea to try and play some when you can. its normally a different style of play, as long as you can adjust i see no issue. dont play sattys for $1k buyin if you play micros/low on average. i enter sattys that are around my avg buyin so the skill gap isnt so out of proportion and less stress when you get 1 through

Honestly, I’ve found satellites can be kind of frustrating. Grinding through the steps takes time, and sometimes the fields feel softer than they actually are, which can mess with your read on real tourneys. I don’t make them my main focus anymore since I prefer going straight into bigger events.

With poker, taking up a tiny initial buy-in and working it up bit by bit is a very good way to get higher value at lower risks. I always subscribe to satellites that pay multiple tickets. With that, variance is at the barest minimum and time is also maximized maximized. For someone like me that has the goal of turning a dollar to $1k, the step approach is the easiest way to make that possible.
