Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly important tool in the casino industry, with one Las Vegas casino reportedly using the technology to identify advantage players.
Casinos have traditionally relied on surveillance teams, experienced staff, and statistical analysis to monitor gaming activity. AI offers another way to examine player behaviour and identify patterns that could indicate someone is gaining an advantage over the house.
Advantage play refers to legal strategies that give a player a mathematical or informational edge over a casino. Examples can include card counting in blackjack, exploiting favourable game conditions, and taking advantage of certain promotions. While these strategies are not necessarily cheating, casinos may restrict or refuse service to players they believe are using them.
The growing use of AI raises questions about how casinos monitor customers, distinguish skilled players from suspicious activity, and decide when intervention is justified.
As casino surveillance technology continues to develop, the balance between protecting casino profits and treating legitimate advantage players fairly could become an increasingly debated issue.
What do you think? Should casinos be allowed to use AI to identify and restrict advantage players, or does this technology give casinos too much power over skilled gamblers?
