Maverick Gaming, the casino company co-founded by high-stakes poker player Eric Persson, is preparing to close eight additional casinos in Washington state as it navigates bankruptcy proceedings.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July 2026 and had already announced the closure of two Washington casinos in Tukwila. The latest round of closures is expected to take effect on November 30, with approximately 850 employees potentially losing their jobs.

The eight properties affected are American Casino in Everett, Chip’s Casino, Macau Casino and Palace Casino in Lakewood, All Star Casino in Silverdale, Casino Caribbean in Yakima, Crazy Moose Casino in Pasco, and Coyote Bob’s Casino in Kennewick.

However, the closures may not be permanent. Company representatives indicated that a potential sale or change in ownership could allow some properties to remain open or delay their shutdowns.

Maverick Gaming has also raised concerns about Washington’s regulatory environment, arguing that restrictions on centralized surveillance technology make it harder for its cardrooms to compete with tribal casino operations. Other reported challenges include high operating costs, a weaker local economy, and layoffs in the technology sector affecting its customer base.

The company previously restructured its debt in 2024, but financial pressures eventually led to its bankruptcy filing. Following the planned closures, Maverick was expected to retain just four properties in Washington.

What do you think? Can Maverick Gaming recover from its financial troubles, or does this signal a bigger problem for smaller casinos and cardrooms competing in Washington?
