I completely ignored bankroll management when I first starting playing poker for money. I played a few home games live with my parents, and that's how I got hooked.

After that, I started playing online and building bankrolls from freerolls. The buy-ins didn't concern me, if I had enough I would play. I looked mostly at prizes. Over time, I became more discipline with how I manage my poker bankroll.

How about you?

Yeah, I think it’s normal to be nervous the first time. Even a small buy-in can be huge to a newbie in the game . It will take a few games before they stopped shaking when pushing chips in.🤣

I don’t play but I imagine it can be a bit nerve-wracking at first especially when real money’s on the line. It’s natural to feel nervous but with experience and confidence that fear usually fades. It’s all about learning the game and managing your bets wisely.

No. When I tried with real money for the first time, I already had some experience with online gambling and I had won as well as lost. So, I wasn't scared to try with real money. But I had set a limit for losing or winning, so even when I lost, it wasn't frustrating.

I think with anything when it comes to money, you will always be nervous, and poker is one of those reasons. In poker, things can go any way, you can come up against opponents who have great tactics and who can be quite tough to play against, and the thought of losing any money you put into a game of poker is bound to cause nerves.

Nope, learned how and always played with real money until the block chain came along.

Did you start with home games, online or just straight to the casino?

Yes, you are right! The first time I loaded a small amount my heart was beating so fast. The play money confidence I had vanished instantly. The real stakes changes your psychology. But starting small helped me. You just assume it's a tuition fee for learning.

I also started building my bankroll through freerolls. I never deposited anything at the beginning of the transition from play-to-play games to real money, and I never went broke because I always maintained a very conservative (even overly so) bankroll. I studied a lot for free, bought a book a long time ago, and after a while, I used part of my bankroll to pay for coaching. This way, I was never afraid to play for real money; it was a slow transition.
