Apparently, it originated in the US southeast region and had earlier roots in European games. It had spread via the Mississippi River (via riverboats) to the rest of the nation.

There is claim that poker started in Persia . That the game spread to European during Alexander conquest. Though, the game continue to past through a lot of modifications until it reached south of United States. It is definite that poker game is derived from tarot cards.
